Hair Extensions Do's and Dont's

Posted on September 23 2015

Hair extensions will ensure that your hairstyle looks truly stunning in any situation. However, for them to look their best, you will need to take good care of this beauty tool. There are a few simple rules you’ll need to learn in order to make the most of them.

Hair Extensions Do’s:

· Start with a consultation.
There are several types of hair extensions available on the market and you will need to choose the perfect one for you in order to be satisfied with them. To do this, you will have to consult a professional before you apply the extensions. Even if you decide to perform the procedure on your own, you should discuss this matter with a specialist first.

· Choose the color wisely.
Hair extensions will add volume to your locks by default, but you can take this a step further and make the effect even more pronounced by choosing a complimentary color. Talk this over with a stylist and study the available options very carefully. Remember that the right shade can make or break your look.

· Invest in high quality products.
Both the extensions and care products you’ll need to keep them in good shape must be of the highest quality. This usually means buying the more expensive items, but this is a necessary investment if you want to protect your natural hair and look stunning at the same time. Be sure to learn what kinds of care products you’ll need and purchase them beforehand.

· Go to regular “maintenance” visits.
Arrange a schedule of extensions “maintenance” visits with your stylists and be sure to keep all the appointments. This is necessary to ensure that your extensions look perfectly nice and natural. Missing these visits and not taking proper care of the extensions will result in your natural hair being damaged.

· Get some silk pillowcases.
You should do everything possible to reduce the static in your hair when you sleep. Silk pillowcases will solve this problem.

Hair Extensions Don’ts:

· Don’t wash your hair too often.
Your locks won’t look as oily and greasy as they usually do when you are wearing hair extensions, so you won’t have the need to wash your hair very often. When you do wet your tresses, be sure to use a detangler first. Brush your hair carefully and use the shampoo safe for your extensions.

· Don’t over-style your hair.
You can do some styling with hair extensions, but you shouldn’t get carried away as using too many products or being too harsh with various hot styling tools can damage these beautiful cosmetic additions. Unlike your natural locks, the extensions cannot be healed and damaging them can result in a total disaster. The only method to fix such a problem is to remove and replace them completely.

· Don’t go to sleep with wet hair.
This is the rule you should obey at all times while wearing hair extensions. Should you go to sleep with your locks wet, or even damp, you will wake up with the worst case of bed hair imaginable and fixing it will take a great deal of time. If you use synthetic extensions, the damage might be permanent.
